Three shoppers peruse a market vegetable stand with large tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins and courgettes.

How can towns, cities regions, states, national and supranational governments align food policies and practices to deliver for climate and nature?

This event brings together insights from the Scottish Government (which has devolved powers covering most aspects of food policy but not for example trade) with the perspectives from city governments, national governments and the EU level.

With food systems accounting for up to a third of total greenhouse gas emissions and driving deforestation and biodiversity loss, there’s never been a more important time for joined up food policy. What we eat, what we waste, how we farm and fish, how we use our land – governments at all levels need a joined-up approach.

Speakers include:

  • Peter Schmidt, European Economic and Social Committee
  • Mandresy Rakotoarison, director for international cooperation, Antananarivo
  • Claudia Lopez, Mayoress of Bogota
  • Latha Swamy, Food Policy Director, City of New Haven
