Key messages

Climate change and nature loss are the greatest threats facing the world’s population.
Climate change is not a distant, far away problem: it is here in Scotland and we’re seeing the impact already.
We are taking strides to tackle climate change. In the last 30 years, we’ve halved Scotland’s greenhouse gas emissions. This is incredible progress. But we must do more.
Some green actions (recycling, reducing food waste and energy use) have become mainstream. Now we must take on the tougher challenges – transport, heating systems, waste reduction, land use and innovating carbon capture technology.

Scotland was at the forefront of the industrial revolution. We’ve invented solutions to global problems before and can do the same again.
With the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in our city of Glasgow this November, we have an unparalleled opportunity to call for urgent action to tackle climate change, to highlight Scotland’s progress to date and to invite the world to join us.
It’s time for change. We all need to take action now. With the wellbeing and safety of the world’s population at stake, we need to succeed. And together we can.
